How To Change a Look With One Item

Whenever Kaity and I take pictures, we will usually shoot a couple outfits at a time. They aren’t outfits we wear daily, although sometimes we will decide to randomly do a quick shoot outside of our coffee shop hangout in the outfit I am wearing that day. I don't know if it seems inauthentic to not actually wear the outfits everyday that we shoot in, but this is our current reality. My goal for this blog is to provide my transparent view of the fashion industry. I never want to be painting a false picture about my life. Most of the time, I feel like big fashion bloggers don't give enough information. Sure, they share every waking moment of the glamorous life: the "unboxing" videos (sigh), fashion party looks, perfectly pieced together toasts, and their other equally as fab blogger friends. (On another note, I liked this article on Man Repeller on what being an ~influencer~ is actually like) I can't pinpoint exactly what I mean, but I just feel deprived of authenticity from other Instagram girls. For me, I never want my voice to be lost in a pile of pretty clothes.
After I graduate, I hope to post more about my daily outfits. In turn, I also want to have more fun with fashion. I am not in the time of my life right now where I can wear the clothes that I want. On a normal day, I do wear clothes that I love, but not to the caliber of styling that I post on my Instagram or our blog. As a college student, it is more practical for me to be wearing joggers and a button-up blouse or trousers with the latest dad sneaker. I still find ways to dress fashionably, but I want my blog to be more experimental. Currently, my Instagram acts as a fashion portfolio to show off my style through outfits I put together. It is a creative outlet for me, but it is also how I learn more about fashion. Sometimes I will have on an outfit that I love, but when I see it in pictures, it does not translate my message. I have also always loved photography, so through shooting, I can learn more about photography, editing, posing, etc that may be helpful for a future job. As I graduate and start my ~journey~ into the fashion world, the blog will feature more of everyday looks. But for right now, I am just practicing looks and looking for inspiration.
Most of the time our shoots are messy from quick changes in the car to clothes thrown all over the place. Sometimes I try to minimize the load by wearing the same shoes or bag. I think it is important to show repeated items because that is what works for most wardrobes. The idea of this post actually happened after the fact. Kaity and I went to go shoot outside of our house and I was just wearing a slip dress and a denim jacket. Last minute, I decided to quickly grab a sweater to maybe layer with the jacket too. As I threw the sweater on Kaity noted how different the outfit looked with just one swap. At college, I often find myself uninspired by my clothes due to the lack of variety and closet space. It is so much easier to be creative with endless choices. I think these pictures became an important lesson for me to challenge myself to remix my basics.
Consider spending some time creating outfits on a lazy Sunday. Start with a basic: a slip dress (like here), a tee, jeans, your favorite dress, and next, just layer and experiment. Maybe you find a cute cropped hoodie to dress down a floral dress. A tee shirt could look cool layered over a classic button-up. Cropped pants give an oversized sweater a new life. There are a million recipes that call for an egg, so think of each garment the same way.

Ditched the sweater, added a denim jacket and a small neck scarf.

This would also be cool with an ivory turtleneck under the dress.

In my looks, I wore a slip dress from Marmalade (I wore the same one in this post) with the same shoes, bag, and socks.
