3 Ways to Wear Summer's Best Trend for Fall

As a "puff-sleeve enthousiast", you know that I was definitely on board for summer's white blouse trend. In delicate fabrics and prairie-like silhouettes, this single top dominated the fashion girl insta-sphere. The white blouse is easy enough to wear with high-waisted shorts for a full fashionable lewk. So what if you are not ready to let this top go just yet? My hypothetical question is really directed towards me because I am not, especially since I have stocked up on many different styles. For a couple of days' outfits, I called for a white blouse to complete my Idaho November looks.

As there are many versions of "The White Blouse", I have narrowed it down to three styles that I have in my wardrobe.

The Collared Button-Up Top

This is the most reoccurring style of the White Blouse group. This could include anything from a menswear button-up to something with more of a statement collar. Here I am wearing a vintage blouse with a lace collar and a ruffle front. The best thing about dressing for fall is getting to layer so many pieces to make one look. I actually knotted the blouse over a slip dress (shown below) and layered the sweater over it to get just a peek of the lace collar. Since the outfit was neutrally monochrome, I toughened it up a little with some black moto boots.

The All Lace Top

I bought this top last fall from Target's Who What Wear collection. I don't buy a lot of fast fashion because I don't like the quality and it's disposable nature. When I buy fast fashion, I make sure that I take care of it and it is something that I keep for a while. I really liked this top because it was different and a standout piece. Because the top has some nods to a vintage victorian top, I didn't want to take it too feminine. A pretty blouse with a tailored menswear pant make an easy everyday outfit formula. I've worn this top before with a bralette underneath, but that would be totally impractical for November. It is a pet peeve of mine to see the people in L.A. wear giant coats because we all know that it is never that cold. I always make a conscious effort to dress for the weather. Here, I layered my cool new patterned turtleneck underneath. I see myself layering this under a lot of dresses and tops in the coming months.

The Classic Prairie Top

I love this outfit but I am disappointed in myself that I chose to wear this on the first snow. I couldn't even get a good picture. In my defense it was unexpected. A prairie style top can be described as but not limited to one with a high-neck and billowing sleeves in a gauzy fabric. I am here for the prairie trend and I am never letting it go. Because the blouse is so light, I layered a long-sleeve striped shirt underneath. This wool jumper dress is one of the first vintage items that I bought when I was 16. I haven't worn it very much but it is a part of my vintage collection that I will never get rid of. Since my legs are bare, I wanted to wear the tallest boots that I own. Unfortunately, over-the-knee boots are just knee high boots on me. On a positive note, they look like a sleek riding boot.

And this concludes my three fall outfits using THE blouse of summer '18. Key theme for fall dressing that you have probably heard countless times: LAYERING! But really, layering is fun and you should try it. I have not fully embraced it until now.
